Energy supplier SSE has announced the appointment of Jane Bednall to the newly created post of Managing Director Domestic Energy.

The move follows SSE’s decision to split its domestic business into two areas: Domestic Energy and Home and Essential Services.

Jane will have overall responsibility for SSE’s gas and electricity customers in Great Britain, reporting directly to Will Morris, Group Managing Director Retail. She brings to SSE a wealth of consumer experience, including six years at Centrica where she was Head of Brand and Marketing for British Gas.

She joins SSE in March 2014 directly from the Intercontinental Hotel Group, where she held a range of senior positions.

Will Morris, Group Managing Director Retail, said:

“Jane will be an invaluable addition to the Retail Leadership Team. She has a strong heritage in customer service centred business and a breadth of blue chip experience, including the energy sector.

“Our new team will be concentrating on giving our customers the best possible offering, in both energy and other essential home services.”

Jane Bednall said:

“This is a very exciting time to be re-joining the energy sector. My driving ambition will be to make a genuine difference for customers and our business. I’m looking forward to joining SSE which is a market leader in the UK energy sector.”

This is SSE’s second major recent retail appointment, and follows that of Jenny Ashmore to Chief Marketing Officer, in September 2013.
