Latest figures show that greater choice is encouraging consumers to switch energy suppliers

Energy UK

The latest switching figures show customers are continuing to shop around with 265,000 changing electricity supplier in March.

The figures, compiled by Electralink and issued by Energy UK, show the total number of customers switching increased once again. The percentage of switches to a smaller provider has also hit a record 43%.

A spokeswoman for Energy UK, the trade association which represents UK generators and retailers, said:

“Switching is alive and well in the electricity market with more and more customers each month comparing deals and finding the best one for them.

“The number of customers changing electricity provider increased by 7% between February and March and more people have switched in the first quarter of this year than did a year ago. The energy industry is working hard to make it easier than ever for customers to compare deals and find the best one for them.
