Smarter Grid Solutions has used its new Active Network Management technology to connect the 48MW Aikengall Wind Farm near Dunbar, East Lothian, as the latest delivery from the SP Energy Networks’ ARC Project.
Smarter Grid Solutions’ Active Network Management products are already been used as part of the SP Energy Networks ‘Accelerating Renewables Connections’ (ARC) project in South East Scotland.
The use of Active Network Management in ARC is fast-tracking the connection of renewables across this area and improving customer service, by managing distribution and transmission constraints.
Colin Taylor, Engineering Services Director, Smarter Grid Solutions, said: “This exciting deliverable will allow us to meet our obligations to connect renewable generation in a timely and efficient manner for our customers, stakeholders and communities well into the future. This major milestone brings tangible benefits and is an excellent team delivery; I look forward now to commissioning further Actively Managed Connections as part of our business as usual connection solutions.”
Active Network Management enables Distributed Network Operators (DNOs) to integrate Distributed Energy Resources (DER). It is the only solution of its kind to use a unique combination of real-time, autonomous and deterministic control to deliver sub-second responses. Five out of six of the UK’s DNOs use ANM.
In the US, Con Edison, Southern Company and PowerStream are all benefiting from Actively Managed Connections that are transforming the utilisation and resiliency of the grid, and managing connected customers at greatly reduced cost.
