South Clyde Energy Centre site purchased by joint venture

A joint venture between Fortum Oyj and Verus Energy called Fortum Glasgow has purchased the South Clyde Energy Centre from Peel Environmental, it was announced on 12 April.

The site, which has planning permission for an energy recovery centre that could treat up to 350,000 tonnes of waste a year for use in electricity and heat generation, is located near the Hillington Industrial Estate in the west of Glasgow.

Peel Environmental and Fortum Glasgow have been working to bring the construction schedule forward so that work on the site begins in early 2020. The project will create around 350 jobs.
