Over three million energy customers have already switched their electricity supplier this year, according to the latest figures released today by Energy UK.
This represents a 14 per cent increase on the same point in time last year.
A total of 385,000 customers switched their electricity provider last month – a 16 per cent increase compared to July 2016 – with one in five choosing to sign up with small and medium-sized suppliers.
Lawrence Slade, Chief Executive, Energy UK said: “To see over three million customers switch this year and save themselves money is fantastic.
“There are now over 50 suppliers to choose from, which is driving innovation, improvements to customer service and providing an incentive to keep prices competitive as suppliers fight to keep and attract customers.”
Tina Tietjen, independent chairman of the Energy Switch Guarantee, said: “Despite the myths about switching, it is simple, speedy and safe to switch and nearly 400,000 switched to a better energy deal last month.
“Energy Switch Guarantee now covers 74 per cent of the market and provides peace of mind that switching will be hassle-free and quick.”
Peter Haigh, Managing Director of Bristol Energy commented: “We know from our customers that they’re not just switching to us because we’re competitive. It’s also because we’ll use our profits to make a positive difference in our founding city.
“More and more people want to know that their money is going. And they want it to do something good. There’s been a lack of trust in the energy sector for too long.”
